WordPress Themes and GPL

Matt from AutoMattic announced on the WordPress.org blog today that they are spotlighting some of the theme creators that have decided to move their companies inline with the GPL:

To celebrate a few folks creating 100% GPL themes and providing support and other services around them, we have a new page listing GPL commercially supported themes.

As Jeffro points out over at WPTavern:

The links do not contain affiliate code and as Ptah Dunbar pointed out on Twitter, the links and images are randomly generated upon page load as to not give any individual site more credence over the other which is a great move.

Kudos to Matt for recognizing these great companies that have realized the benefit of GPL and how it can work in the business world.

Qik available for Android!

Hey TMobile users with G1s, hit up the Market and you can download Qik, the video streaming app! It instantly streams your videos from your phone to the internet!

Hopefully you have 3G, I just tested in SLC where we only have EDGE and the refresh is super slow, pretty much unusable, but I hear on 3G things are smooth.

Pidgin 2.5.6 had a few bugs, most notably the Yahoo! Protocol 16 support bug. So the folks at Pidgin rallied this one and brought out version 2.5.7 this weekend.

Here are the changes:

  • Yahoo Protocol 16 support, including new HTTPS login method; this should fix a number of login problems that have recently cropped up.
  • Only display the AIM “Unable to Retrieve Buddy List” message once per connection.
  • Blocking MSN users not on your buddy list no longer disconnects you.
  • When performing operations on MSN, assume users are on the MSN/Passport network if we don’t get network ID’s for them.

Happy IMing!

HP Pavilion Elite m9600t

We ran a battery of tests including Cinebench, 3DMark06, and OpenSourceMark. In each of the tests the machine ran remarkably well. You can read the numbers yourself below. One thing we do around here at Utahcon.com is that we actually sit down and use the machines we are sent as if they were our workstation for the time we have them. This gives us a chance to really use the machine and make sure we find any little quarks the machine might display. This really is the big difference between our review and say the review at CNet.
